Jazz concert scheduled for Market Square

Vance Thompson’s Five Plus Six band will perform a free concert on the outdoor stage at Market Square in downtown Knoxville on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 8pm. In the event of rain, the concert will move indoors to the Bijou Theatre.

On July 9 and 10, the group will record a debut CD at Wildwood Recording Studio in Franklin, TN. Music for the project includes arrangements by Vance Thompson and pianist Keith Brown of compositions by Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Dolly Parton.

Five Plus Six is an eleven member jazz band, primarily comprised of younger players who have come onto the local scene since the founding of the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra in 1999. Many of the members have studied extensively under the musicians of the KJO.
